Salad decoration is an important part of the entire serving. You can decorate dishes not only with the usual herbs, but also with a variety of cuts, mayonnaise designs, and figurines. Dishes that received proper attention during presentation are always much tastier and more beautiful than the rest.

“Shuba” salad is one of the favorite salads of our people because it consists of simple and affordable ingredients, and their combination gives a unique and delicate taste. “Shuba” is often prepared for the New Year and Christmas holidays, and it always evokes a feeling of triumph and joy in a person, even on the most ordinary everyday day.

Herring under a fur coat got its name only because the fish is covered with many “fluffy” vegetable and mayonnaise layers with which it is covered on a serving dish. But how boring the same salad bowl with this dish can look at every holiday. Nowadays, it is popular and relevant to create an unusual and original presentation for everything, and “fur coat” is no exception.

The most common and “boring” serving of herring salad “Shuba”

Original serving of the standard salad “Herring under a fur coat”:

  • One of the methods involves giving the salad the shape of a fish; it is not necessary to imitate the herring itself, but the shape of a funny, even slightly childish fish can provoke joy and a smile in everyone
  • To do this, the salad should be laid out on a plate in advance in a specific shape: an oval with a tail
  • All the details that are characteristic of a fish can be created from scrap materials: scraps of vegetables, olives, herbs, onion rings, drawings with mayonnaise

This salad will decorate your holiday table and will not leave anyone indifferent. Of course, the composition of the salad can be anything depending on your preferences.

I used the following products: potatoes, eggs, carrots, boiled beef, dill, onions and mayonnaise.

Boil the potatoes, grate them on a medium grater, and place them on a square-shaped dish. In principle, the shape can be either round or rectangular. Make a mayonnaise mesh on the potatoes.

Cut the beef into small cubes and place on top of the potatoes. Make a mayonnaise grid again.

Cut the onion into half or quarter rings, marinate with vinegar for 15-20 minutes. You can simply scald it with boiling water, but we like the taste of pickled onions combined with beef. Place the onion on top of the meat and make a thin mesh of mayonnaise.

Place the next layer of finely chopped dill. When laying out each layer, trim the structure on all sides with a wide knife. If you have a salad pan, it is better to use it, then all sides will be perfectly even.

Boil the carrots and use a vegetable peeler to cut into thin strips. Trim them along the edges so that they are as wide as possible.

Finely chop the remaining carrots and place on top of the dill. Make a mayonnaise mesh again.

Boil the eggs, grate the whites and yolks separately. Place the yolks on top of the carrots. Lubricate them with mayonnaise.

Cover the entire salad with grated egg whites. Tie with carrot ribbons and make a bow.

Give the salad a little time to brew and you can serve it.

Bon appetit!

Plant such a spider on your salad - it will surprise everyone. As you can see from the picture, it is very easy to prepare. You only need a few olives. Cut one olive in half and one of the halves will become the body of a spider. Cut the other half lengthwise into strips - and there you have the legs. The spider has eight legs. Such spiders need to be planted on salads with a uniform surface; for example, I planted them on chicken salad and walnuts(300 gr. boiled chicken fillet, 200 gr. peeled walnuts, mayonnaise, salt and ground black pepper. Mince the chicken and nuts, season with mayonnaise, salt and pepper). Do you see how clearly these spiders are visible on the surface of the lettuce? And you can make not only spiders from olives. These round black berries look so much like black eyes...

2. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - BASKETS OF HARD-BOILED EGGS

Boil the eggs hard. Take a sharp knife (not serrated) and a peeled egg in your hand. Make oblique cuts around the perimeter (I would say “along the equator”) of the egg as in the photo and divide the egg into 2 halves. One half (like a basket) can be filled green peas or sweet corn, or herbs, and the other half can be filled with chopped yolk and mixed with finely chopped dill.

3. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - LILY FROM PROCESSED CHEESE SLAPS

You will need several slices of processed cheese (the kind they put in cheeseburgers, each cheese is wrapped separately in cellophane) and boiled carrots. A little more dill and parsley for decoration. So, boiled carrots you need to cut it into long strips - these will be the pistils of our flower. And make the lilies themselves from squares of cheese rolled into little bags. Insert carrot pistils inside, and green stems of dill or parsley will be the thick stems of our lilies. Our cheese “balls” need to be wrapped around these stems.

4. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - FORM A PAPER STENCIL

The idea is simple: you need to cut out a stencil from paper in some interesting shape. For example, a star, or a bell, or some geometric figure, a circle, for example. Place this stencil on the salad and sprinkle a uniform color on top, for example, pureed yolks, or finely chopped herbs, but it should be a contrasting color to the background of the salad so that it is clearly visible. Then remove the paper, and our drawing will remain on the salad. Only if you are not an artist, and in general are not very experienced in these matters, it is better to work with a really simple, uncomplicated figure, for example, a star. Everyone will definitely recognize it, and you can decorate it along the edges, for example, with pomegranate seeds, to make the borders of the star brighter and more clearly defined. In my photo there is a cake (I decorated the cake with a star), not a salad, but the idea itself is clear from the photo :)

5. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - ROSE FROM TOMATO

Tomato rose is a classic. This rose can be planted on almost any salad - the tomato is quite neutral and goes well with many salads. It is especially important to decorate vegetable summer and spring salads with such a tomato rose. With such salads you cannot create a perfectly flat surface on which you can draw whatever you want - they are a shapeless, uneven mass. Plant a tomato rosette in the middle of such a salad - and the salad is decorated. It’s clear that you won’t get a rose from a tomato the first time, but sooner or later your rose will become like a real one, the main thing is practice. There are two ways to make a rose from a tomato, for both methods you will need a very sharp knife. The first method is to simply peel off all the skin from the tomato with a spiral and form a rose from this skin. The rose is assembled from the skin itself, the main thing is not to tear it, the strip of skin must be whole. And the second way is that we simply cut the tomato into very thin slices, without cutting it all the way, and slightly shift and rotate these slices. The second method is a little more complicated, but it involves the whole tomato. In any case, from now on, if you add a fresh tomato to your salad, and you usually peel it, now you know what to do with this peel... you can make a rose and decorate the salad!

6. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - FIGURES OF BOILED VEGETABLES, CUT WITH COOKIE FORMS

These molds are sold at any hardware store. A mold like the one in the photo costs only ten rubles. And the material from which you can cut can be taken from any, you can cut from boiled sausage or ham, from boiled beets, from boiled carrots, from boiled potatoes (unless they are potatoes with a low starch content, that is, they do not fall apart at all and do not become soft when cooked , but retains its shape well). If you don’t have such a mold at hand, use glasses, glasses... for example, you can make rings by first cutting out a large circle with a glass from a plate of boiled beets, and then a small one inside. Pay attention to the photo below: in order to lay out individual servings of salad, it is convenient to have a mold like this that does not have a bottom. With this mold, the salad can be formed perfectly round, already on the plate.

7. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - MAYONNAISE MESH AND CHIPS PETALS

A mayonnaise mesh can be used to decorate a salad very simply and quickly. You need to make a very thin hole in the bag with mayonnaise with scissors, so that the bag with mayonnaise becomes like a pastry bag, from which you, squeezing out the mayonnaise, can draw anything with mayonnaise (even write text). But don’t rush with the text, it may not work out, but a mayonnaise mesh will always work out. In addition, you can place red caviar or greens, or other colorful greens, fruits and vegetables in the mesh cells in a checkerboard pattern, and it will turn out very beautiful. And the chips around the perimeter of the salad look like petals. And the chips will be the first to be snapped up :)

8. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - OLIVE PALMS

Thread the olives onto a skewer or toothpick. Decorate the tops of palm trees with greens (dill or green onions) and stick these palms into your salad. Original and quite simple.

9. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - LAYOUT KOLEIDOSCOPE PATTERNS FROM PEAS, BERRIES OR CORN

In fact, half a can canned corn, or pineapple rings, or a few green peas are enough to make a rather original, eye-catching design - a pattern on a salad. You can simply chop radishes very thinly and come up with an interesting design from these circles. Pomegranate berries are also a very good material for laying out a design. Pomegranate goes especially well with chicken salad. For example, simply boiled chicken fillet, mixed with mayonnaise and laid out on a flat plate, can be decorated with pomegranate seeds, and it will be very delicious salad, which everyone will like.

10. HOW TO DECORATE A SALAD - STRIPES OF MULTI-COLORED BELL PEPPERS OR CUCUMBERS, COMPOSED IN A PATTERN

There is no particular need to describe this method - everything is clear. Be it flowers, or a person’s face, or just geometric shapes: all this can be easily assembled from simple bright colorful bell peppers, cut into strips.

This second pattern, of course, is much simpler, but everything is in your hands. You can take bright yellow, bright green and bright red bell peppers. This colorful trio will decorate any salad simply with the brightness of its flowers.

Oddly enough, in my family (where I grew up) Mimosa salad was never made. And I only tried this dish as an adult. I don’t know if this is a classic recipe or if people have adapted it a little to suit their tastes - I don’t know. But I liked it, and from now on, no, no, and I’ll make this salad. especially since it is done using canned fish, it turns out easier than with meat or sausage. I made Mimosa salad for festive table, so I chose the puff design option. Therefore, all my layers are in mirror order. That is, if the salad is prepared directly in a salad bowl or in layers, but using a springform pan, then the layers should be laid in reverse.

First, be sure to boil the potatoes and carrots. Separately cook the eggs.

I repeat once again: I don’t have a springform pan. So I use a large plastic ice cream container (1 kg). Cover the container with cling film so that you can easily turn the salad onto a plate. My first layer is cheese.

Making a mayonnaise mesh. I coat the layers with mayonnaise, but I know that some people prefer to mix the ingredients with mayonnaise right away... I don’t know - it’s a matter of taste.

When the eggs have been boiled and cooled cold water(they are then easy to clean), separate the whites from the yolks. Set the yolks aside for now, and rub the whites onto coarse grater and put it in the salad as the next layer. We also make a mayonnaise mesh on top.

Add boiled carrots, grated on a coarse grater. Spread mayonnaise on top.

The next layer is onion, cut into fairly small cubes. I have purple onions, they themselves are not particularly bitter. But if the onion is vigorous, it makes sense to marinate it a little.

Place canned fish, thoroughly mashed with a fork, on the mayonnaise mesh on top of the onion. Don't forget about mayonnaise on top.

The last layer in the mold is potatoes, grated on a coarse grater. There is no need to make a mayonnaise grid anymore.
